Local transport for those without cars

Following the local protests at the withdrawal of the Post Bus Service in our villages, perhaps locals might not be aware of the other options already available – the Book-a-Ride, the Hospital Car Service, the Hospital Link, and of course our own Clavering Care service.

Some of these services, whilst they may not be regular like the Post Bus, are available for just visiting friends, going to events or days out, shopping, etc.   Some are for hospital trips, or dentists.   Just ring 01371 875787, or Clavering Care on 07980 259044

TRAFFIC ‘FLASHING LIGHTS’ SYSTEM IN CLAVERING

Essex County Council Highways Department have decided to install the Variable Message Signs in Clavering now, and they should be in place towards the end of March or early April.

They are likely to be located in the first instance towards the end of Pelham Road and on the Wicken Road.   Highways recommended that the Parish Council choose one location within the current 30mph limit, and one within the 40mph limit, but other locations have been identified (all on the B1038) in the High Street, on Hill Green and nearer to the Cricketers on Wicken Road.

Highways expect them to be there for 6 months, and after that they will be moved to the second choices.   The number of sites is limited by where the signs will work – they are powered by the sun and are quite complex, so not everywhere is suitable.

Once the survey results from the signs has been studied, Highways will advise the Parish Council what the next steps will be, and whether the flashing lights have in fact reduced speeds through Clavering enough for us to comply with getting a 30mph limit everywhere.

Recycling Site in Clavering

As of 6th SEPTEMBER 2005

I would like to inform you that the recycling site at the M&M Supermarket on Stortford Road has moved location and is now situated in the overflow car park of The Cricketers PH.

At this recycling site, you are able to recycle your glass bottles and jars, food and drinks cans and paper.

May I also remind you that there is a glass recycling bank in the car park of the village hall if this is more convenient.

If you should require further details of our recycling service, or have any queries, please telephone the Recycling Officer on 01799 510557 or Environmental administration on 01799 510370.

Thank you for your continued support for recycling.
