Footpaths around Clavering

This is the new Definitive Map of all the footpaths in our village, and it is the new legal guide to the public rights of way – if it’s not marked on the map, it’s not a footpath!

Essex County Council last issued a Definitive Map in 1963, and it has taken them years of surveys to finalise these new maps for the whole county. Everyone has the right to check whether they are on the right route by simply walking into the Council Offices – or asking their Parish Clerk – so we thought we’d make it publicly available all the time. And being on the right route can be very important in case of accident if a question of public liability arises.

We are fortunate in Clavering to have a network of quite exceptional footpaths, with something interesting around every corner (just read Jackie Cooper’s new book!) and fantastic views all over the place, and we hope that this will help everyone to make the most of them.

So if you’re one of the many walkers in Clavering, do wend your way to Blacksmiths Corner and have a look at the map on the side of the bus shelter.

There are three maps which cover central Clavering, Clavering-Langley and Clavering-Arkesden (ref: TL43 SE, TL43 SW, TL43 NE respectively), which can be purchased from Essex County Council, Public Rights of Way Office, County Hall, Chelmsford, CM1 1QH (or telephone 01245 437563). Each map costs £2 (inc p&p)
