Council of Management meeting held on 16 July 2008

Fete

Another year when the weather was unkind to us, but nevertheless a commendable turnout of stallholders, helpers and visitors. The profit exceeded expectations at over £1,000. The Chairman thanked all involved – particularly the Fete Chair (Rosie Smith) who had headed the Committee for a number of years. Hayley Joseph had volunteered to chair the Committee for 2009.Rosie Smith reported that, in view of the run of bad weather in recent years, the Committee had discussed changing the date of the Fete but had concluded that it should continue to be held on the last Monday in May.

Membership

Mr. Ron Couchman has been appointed the 3rd representative of the Parish Council on the Council of Management.

Hall Improvements

The application to Uttlesford District Council for a Grant of 50% of the estimated cost (£5,000) of installing a Hearing Loop and making alterations to the Heating system was successful. Unfortunately, the result of the annual service of the Boiler revealed that it would need replacing within the next 12 months. Consequently a meeting of the Building and Finance Committee will need to be held to consider – with the Service Engineers and the Heating Consultant – whether there are any alternatives to replacing the existing boiler on a like-for-like basis which would provide a quieter and more effective system. As the cost involved is likely to be significant, additional Grant funding will have to be sought - which will probably delay implementation until August 2009. Nevertheless, the Hearing Loop will be installed in August 2008.

The Annual General Meeting

This will be held in the Village Hall on Wednesday 15th October 2008 commencing at 8.30pm. All persons over the age of 18 resident in the Parish of Clavering are invited to attend this meeting. The Village Hall is an important part of the village and the Council of Management welcomes parishioners’ views on its organisation and maintenance.

Postscript: The Building Sub-Committee met and considered the views of the Service Engineers and the Heating Consultant (namely that without installing underfloor heating there was no alternative to the present system) and decided that the alterations to the Heating system, for which the Grant application had been successful, should go ahead in August 2008 as planned. The Consultant and the Service Engineers have been asked to advise us as to the most suitable replacement Boiler.
