CLAVERING HISTORY EXHIBITION

Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th September 2011
Clavering Christian Centre, Stortford Road
10 am - 5 pm - entry minimum donation £1

The Clavering History Group is organising another exhibition, following the very popular one in 2008. This time the theme will concentrate on 20th century Clavering, and we would be delighted if any local organisations wish to mount a display about the history of their club - please get in touch to discuss it. We also welcome loans of photos, documents, mementoes and artefacts that relate to the period 1900-2000. This time we will be using the upper rooms of the Christian Centre too, so that will offer a quiet space where people can do family history research, and displays of household and farming objects, and displays of early history.

People who missed the last exhibition and heard about it afterwards, were upset at what they missed, so be sure to come along! The whole building will be full of history so allow plenty of time - why not spend the day there, as we have delicious home-made refreshments all day long. Other features include a history book stall, expert advice on how to do your family history (with access to our family reconstitution records), film videos and WW2 memorabilia.

Please email for a map showing location and where to park or any other information:

Clavering Church - Update

The licencing of our new priest, the Rev Margaret Davies, will take place on Sunday 18th September at 3pm in the Parish Church. All are welcome to this and to the reception afterwards at the Village Hall.

The arrival of a new priest is always an important event, marking the beginning of a new phase of ministry for priest and people. This is marked by a special service,as the people, the new minister, and the representatives of the wider community come together with the Bishop to celebrate with a high sense of anticipation of God's blessing on the years that are ahead.

Some features of the service have their origins in the Middle Ages; others are comparatively new. In itself, this reminds us that Christian ministry has been offered here for many generations while it has been made fresh for each succeeding generation. The last induction of a new priest in Clavering took place in 1989 and with it's sense of history and symbolism it will be an occasion which should not be missed.
