Clavering rememberedBy Fred WhymanIn December the History Group launched Volume 4 in the Oral History Project series, Clavering Remembered by Fred Whyman, which is available for £4 from Fred at the Nursery on Hill Green, or from Joy Barrow at Larkrise, Wicken Road (tel 550527). It is a very interesting book and we are grateful to Jane Laing for the interview and editing, and of course to Fred. |
The Clavering Countryside Group has now obtained sufficient grants to provide two information boards and a supply of leaflets for the Jubilee Nature Trail which aims to join up three important habitats – Simons Wood, Dick Ball Meadow and Lower Hill Green. The trail will be launched on Sunday 3rd June as part of the village Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Further news nearer the date.
The book about Clavering in wartime is now nearing completion and has been so incredibly interesting to research, and people have been most generous in sharing
their photos, memories and documents on those in uniform. I am hoping people can also help with the final phase of the research, which is information about those
who did other kinds of war work in industry, ATS, NAAFI, VAD, munitions and other factories etc, and particularly women whose wartime work is often overlooked.
Any further contributions would be very welcome.
